7 Steps to Decorate with Ease!

Hi everyone, Welcome back so Simialexis Interiors!

Decorating seems easy when you have a clear big space, your imagination can go wild, but what happens if you are given no other choice but to refurbish a room that looks like this...

It can be slightly overwhelming right? To help you in these TOUGH scenarios, I have gathered a list of tips that can be checked off your list to make the job 10 times easier and most importantly more enjoyable!

Take a look...

1. Check out the architecture...

Evaluate the style of the room; How large is the space? Does it have a balance? Think about what you can change, the colour of the walls or maybe the panels on the ceiling? hmm ;)

2. The Flooring...

Remember the flooring has to work well with the architecture, the key word here is balance. Rough Walls and Rough Flooring can be somewhat overwhelming. If the room is already like this, and there is nothing you can do about it, you may have to choose simple decorative patterns and pieces.

3. Upholstery...

When choosing upholstery pieces, it is important to make it as simple as possible. They are extremely expensive to make, however they are an investment as they are well-made and last for decades. Having 'crazy' patterned pieces can look very overwhelming and will cost a lot if 5 years down the line, you wish to redecorate again.

4. Accent Fabrics...

This is based on your Colour Scheme- come up with a Concept Board and swatches to see what goes well together before buying these pieces. Remember that there are many shades of one colour.

5. Case-goods...

Case-goods are those standard pieces that are made of raw materials etc. e.g a Coffee Table. This will truly balance your room when you have fabrics and upholstered pieces.

6. Accessories...

This is the fun part! This is where you can truly show who you are as accessories add life and personality to the room. Look for pieces that appeal to you and reflect who you are- make sure it works well together and you do not overdo it.

7. Lighting...

There are four types of lighting  and it looks amazing if you include all of them, some more subtle than others
General Lighting- This is the main light that you use to see.
Task Lighting- This is used for a specific task. For example, a side lamp for reading.
Accent Lighting- Form of decorative lighting and used mainly to accentuate pictures or exquisite pieces of décor.
Decorative Lighting- Candles and a fireplace, to give a nice ambiance.

Have fun Decorating!!

Lots of Love
